Hopefully, that is a question that has got you thinking – what is this about?
I came across this video a few days ago of a TED talk by Hans and Ola Rosling.
“How not to be ignorant about the world”.
I would encourage you to watch the video.
Additional information about this subject is available on the Gapminder website.
If you are interested in the results of the Ignorance Survey in the USA in 2013 click the link.
If you have watched the video – how did you go with the questions about the world – were you ignorant? Were you beaten by the Chimps?
If you were, was this because of:
- Personal bias
- Outdated facts
- News bias
The thing I found interesting about this technique and research is the lag between actual facts and public perception of the facts.
Public perception, due to personal bias, outdated facts and news bias seemed to be up to 20-30 years behind the actual factual situation.
So what do this information and research have to do with infrastructure asset management?
We will unpack that in ‘Are you Ignorant, Part 2’
