I came across this clip on Youtube and it got me thinking…
One of the objectives of infrastructure asset management is the sustainable deployment of infrastructure to provide services to our communities.
One of the challenges is to provide ‘non-asset’ or different asset solutions to the problem – or at least seriously consider them in your infrastructure asset management analysis.
This clip gives a small case study that challenges us to think quite differently to a traditional solution – in this case providing coastal protection.
Yes – of course, there are many cases where traditional infrastructure and networks are the right solutions to the problem being addressed – but there are also plenty more cases where thinking outside the box, creatively, and using innovation might provide different and more sustainable solutions for your communities.
When looking at new infrastructure assets, or undertaking renewal of infrastructure assets, please take some time to think outside of the box – you might be surprised what you will discover.
If you have an example of good practice in this area – please let us know.
