In April 2015, Dr. Natalie Jackson, New Zealand’s preeminent research demographer, gave a presentation hosted at the Waugh Infrastructure Management offices in Timaru to an audience of New Zealand local government transportation and water utility engineers and Waugh Infrastructure Management staff.
The presentation provided an update from the previous February 2013 presentations on New Zealand Demography.
The presentation provided results from the 2013 New Zealand Census by Territorial Authority (TA) area.
This video, whilst New Zealand focused, demonstrates the latest in demographic modeling techniques as applied to the structural aging of the population, which assist in providing an understanding of this issue.
The discussions during the presentation were infrastructure management focused, and include the implications of structural population aging on infrastructure service delivery.
While the presentation is New Zealand focused it does include a brief discussion of some of the approaches being taken internationally to the same problem.
All OECD countries have the issue of structural aging of the population, and this will have a major impact on the future demand for services and associated infrastructure asset management.
Inframanage.com believes this video will be useful to all readers of this site, and for those not from New Zealand – the analysis techniques, demographic issues, and discussion will be transferable to your situation.
