In this period of lockdowns local or national, we have created a series of blogs on “Covid-19 Lockdown Carpe Diem Strategy” as you stay at home and think about the infrastructure systems that you are managing.
Road networks are major infrastructure that people use every day and thus need consistent checking and maintenance.
For their role in the day-to-day life of the populace, they have established repair and renewal plans.
Often, accomplishing major road repair and development would entail putting up roadblocks, closures, and detours, which would create a chain of disruptions amongst road users, deliveries, and manufacturing industries.
Therefore, the lockdowns that the coronavirus pandemic created provides an excellent opportunity to implement significant road maintenance or constructions.
Of course, one can’t mobilize and implement any road network activities during the total lockdown when the Covid-19 outbreak is at its peak.
However, as a result of the community quarantine, the incidence of the outbreak will diminish, and the government will implement partial or local lockdowns.
Seize the day when road use is still at the minimum and implement the plans that the lockdown had delayed. You can even evaluate your program of works and find out what items you can put forward if this is practical.
The lockdown period is your opportunity to do the following:
- Planning
- Engineering design
- Business association and/or community consultation
- Proposal review and approval
- Pre-construction mobilization
- Pre-construction community communication
